Future of Network Marketing
(This is a transcript of my State of Network Marketing video)
I sure some of you are aware that there has been a shift, or a movement, within the MLM industry in the last few years. What is coming will define the future of the industry.
The future of Network Marketing is bright for those who plan ahead.
Network Marketing, just like any other business, is constantly evolving and as business evolve, systems and teaching need to evolve.
Technology and the Internet are changing the way we connect, create relationships and do business. Those who refuse to recognize and adapt to this trend will struggle in this industry.
If you just stick to old-school methods you’ll be at a huge disadvantage. You need to diversify your lead generation activities.
You Have Probably Been Taught:
- Make a List
- Convince your friends and family (warm market)
- Don’t worry the product sells itself
- Talk to anybody you come across (3 foot rule)
- Always talk about your opportunity
- Don’t take “NO” for an answer.
Like most of you, I have tried them all. Deep inside they never felt right to me, but this is “how all the big leaders did it”, they say.
“If the leaders did it, then that’s what I have to do, right?”
Well, most people are not aware that techniques we’ve been taught dates back to the 60’s and 70’s. In those times, doctors and attorneys made house calls, and door to door sales were common form of commerce.
With over 95% failure rate in the industry, they don’t seem to be working very well.
The business world has changed dramatically the last 40 years, but most Network Marketing training and teaching have not.
Old-school methods automatically assume people are unsophisticated or not smart enough to actually do what it REALLY takes to succeed in this industry.
So, uplines start feeding distributors watered-down systems and action plans.
They say, “If it’s hard, it can’t be easily duplicated”.
The problem with this mindset is that you will continuously sponsor and build teams of distributors who are unprepared and lack the knowledge to make it, which leads to high failure rates.
You’re probably thinking, “But Ed, I want an easy duplicable system, like the ones out there”.
Well, over 95% of distributors fail in Network Marketing. Do you really want learn and teach these systems?
Your goal is not to sponsor anyone into your business. You only want those who are looking and already have the mindset.
While old-school teaches you to chase anyone and everyone, new-school is about attracting only those who are in your Target Market.
You only want those who are already SOLD on Network Marketing, or at least express an interest, and are actively looking within the industry for opportunities, leaders, tools, support, training, etc.
They are your TARGET MARKET.
How do you find these people?
You see, people who are searching for something online have a need. They are most targeted prospects you can find.
Through the course of the Network Marketing history, there are many Tools that changed the way people conduct business.
But none of these compares the power of the Internet. The Internet is changing the landscape of the Future of Network Marketing.
- There are 2.1 billion internet users worldwide
- Facebook has more than 800 million active users
- Twitter has 300 million users
- YouTube videos receives 3 billion views each day
- LinkedIn has more than 135 million users worldwide
- There are 2.9 million searches done per minute
- The US internet in 2015 will be at least 50 times larger than it was in 2006
- Now, 97% of consumers use online media when researching products and services in their local area.
The Internet Will Allow You To:
- Only attract people who are looking
- Brand yourself, so people will chase you, not the other way around
- Generate leads and sponsor 24/7
- Connect with millions around the world
- Potentially to generate endless leads, since contents you publish on the web can live forever
- Minimize travel for presentations and meetings
- Minimize time spent training downlines
- Be successful in any company
- Generate multiple streams of income
- Differentiate yourself from the average networker
The Internet, however, can present some challenges…especially for those who are not tech savvy.
All the technology that came before it did not require a steep learning curve.
Internet Network Marketing is still fairly new, but some have stepped up to the plate and made it successful. These pioneers have successfully cracked the code.
In the coming years, students of these pioneers will forever change the future of Network Marketing.
Just like anything on online, it is moving and changing fast. Those who don’t embrace it NOW will be left behind.
Why should you care about this trend?
Success in Network Marketing boils down to how much value you add to yourself and to others. The Internet is not a FAD. It has shifted the way we communicate and do business.
By knowing how to leverage this powerful tool, you have higher value, over others, in the eyes of your prospects. And in the future, this skill set will not just be a nice-to-have. It will be a need-to-have.
So, if you want to attract and compete with the NEW breed of Network Marketers, you will need to step up to the plate.
So, what do you need to do NOW to stay ahead of the average Network Marketer?
You need to build an Online Traffic and Lead Generation System that will sort, filter and attract prospects to you.
Your goal is to attract as much searchers to your Online Properties as possible.

So, how do you get people to come to you?
Here are the 3 step process:
- Build an Online Presence
- Blog (Your Nerve Center or Marketing Center)
- Capture Pages
Here is the difference between Old-School and New-School MLM:
- Old-School – Promote and market your opportunity, product or service on the front-end.
- New-School – Promote and market information, system and solution to solve problems on the front-end.
Expert marketer Perry Marshall sums up this concept perfectly with this quote:
“Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should advertise information about making holes – NOT information about drills!” -Perry Marshall
And within that information you mention your drill that is perfect for the holes they want to make.
How can you apply that to your Network Marketing business?
“People who join a Network Marketing business, actually don’t want a Network Marketing business. They want FREEDOM, TIME, HEALTH, MONEY….
Therefore, if you want someone to join your opportunity, don’t pitch your opportunity up-front. Give or sell them information on how to build a successful business”.
And within that information you mention your opportunity that can get them what they want.
You have branded yourself as a leader, an authority, an expert and a trusted source.
You elevate yourself to the status of a Consultant, where people chase you. You become the hunted, not the hunter
“Salespeople chase people. People seek Consultants”
You have just differentiated yourself from 99% of Network Marketers out there.
