Social media will be one of the biggest driving force in growing your business going forward.

To succeed in social media, you must change your promotion process.

Gone are the days where you can just put your offer in front of people and expect them to buy. The internet has created more educated consumer with more options.

In the past, there were only one-way marketing messages...TV, Magazines, Newspaper, Web 1.0, etc.

Social media has changed all that.

Now, consumers can get all the information they need about a particular product in minutes, anytime, anywhere.

Consumers also have a say in the promotion process as well. They can give you negative comments/reviews if you're not in the up-and-up.

On the positive side, they can be your greatest evangelist...able to spread goodwill about your products in real time for all their friends and followers to see.

If you can leverage the viral and word of mouth aspect of marketing in the online social world, you'll build can build a kick-ass brand faster than ever before.

Here are 7 ways to help you succeed in Social Media Marketing:

1. Create a conversation with prospects/customers.

Remember, one-way marketing messages do not work well in social media. There is a reason why it's called "social" media.

If you want to reach the right customers, and get them to look at your brand, you need a way to create a conversation with them.

You need to involve them in the discussion of your marketing campaigns. Make them feel they are part of the brand.

2. Listen and respond to what they are saying.

When prospects or customers post comments, feedback and reviews...acknowledge the actions, and respond in a manner that makes your brand stand out from the rest.

Positive, as well as negative comments need to be addressed in a professional manner.

Many companies try to avoid negative comments whenever possible. This is a mistake...if the comments are legit, then there is something not right with your products. Use those comments to improve your brand. Turn those negatives into positives and you will win a customer for life.

3. Provide massive amount of value.

Consumers can access almost any type of product info with minutes...which means they can access competitors products.

Get it out of your head that your product is the best, and you are the only choice out there. If you have a good product, chances are there are many competitors out there, and they are all gunning for you.

If someone else can provide more value than you...guess where the customers are going?

You need to provide more value than your competitors...this is the only way to win in the marketplace.

4. Educate, inform, entertain.

People go to social media not necessary to buy something. Companies that think like that usually fail in social media marketing.

You can't just take an existing marketing campaign from, say, TV and make it work on social media.

People log onto social media to be entertained, to be informed, to be educated about their interests, and to see what their friends are doing.

Your marketing messages need to include part, if not all those factors.

5. Ditch the hard-sell...create story-selling campaigns.

People don't like to be sold, especially on social media...but they like to buy.

Give them a reason to buy from you.

Create "good-feeling" stories that will help bond your prospects to your brand.

When they feel they are part of the story...it's their decision to buy from you...not because you hard-sold them.

6. Get prospects off of social media into a value-based marketing funnel.

Remember, one of the main reason people go on social media is to be entertained.

There are too much distractions within the social media platform to capture their full attention.

You need to move them into a place of marketing (selling), so the focus is on you and your brand.

To do this effectively, you need to provide value...you need a value-based marketing funnel...educate, inform, connect, then selling is effortless.

7. Content, Content, Content.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to "CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT".

The game has changed...people want to be more informed about what they are interested in. If you can deliver what they are looking for in a "non-pushy" way, you will gain loyal followers, and create a strong brand.
